Great Places to See Fall Leaves’ Colors Near Phoenix

If you do not see too much of a change in your own neighborhood, then perhaps you need to venture out into nature. Luckily, there are plenty of places close to Phoenix that offer truly dazzling experiences. See an array of fall colors in Arizona by traveling to one of these glorious destinations.

Bear Jaw

Located about two hours outside of Phoenix, you can see a number of extraordinary Flagstaff fall colors when you venture into Bear Jaw. There are a few different hiking trails you can take depending on your experience level. There is a two-mile trail that is highly recommended, but people can also trek the entire loop, which goes for seven miles and starts at 8,500 feet elevation. Regardless of which one you take, you will be treated to a beautiful view of exceptional golden foliage.

North Rim Parkway

Approximately 350 miles away from Phoenix is the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Throughout the drive, you are treated to a fantastic scenic view of the state where you will see all sorts of Arizona colors. Once you reach the North Rim, you can park your car and take a leisurely stroll through meadows and forest areas. The best times to visit this area to see the leaves change are late September through early October. Of course, this is also a great opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon if you are a Phoenician who has never witnessed all its glory.

Veit Springs Trail

This trail is located just outside of Flagstaff, and it offers a short jaunt for anyone looking for a quick, easy hike. A great aspect of this particular trail is that it tends to be less congested than other ones in the area. Therefore, if you are looking for a bit of solitude while you take in all nature has to offer, this trail is for you.

Oak Creek Canyon

Check out beautiful Sedona fall colors by venturing into Oak Creek Canyon, located directly north of Sedona. You can bring dogs on the trails, so get your furry companion on a leash and head out. There are plenty of other activities to look into, including a Pink Jeep tour, which provides you with an incredible 360-degree view of Sedona’s natural red rocks. There is also a spa in the vicinity to enjoy a little rest and relaxation.

The Aspen Nature Loop

Many people head over to the Aspen Nature Loop during the winter when snow falls and the area becomes a winter wonderland. However, you can take in some breathtaking views by heading over in September or October and watching the leaves change color. Enjoy golden aspens during the fall season. There are all kinds of activities to do on these trails, including trail running and birding.

Inner Basin Trail

It is about a three-hour drive to the Inner Basin Trail from Phoenix, Arizona. However, it is truly worth the drive. You are allowed to camp on the premises, so you can spend an entire weekend taking in all the wondrous fall colors in Arizona. This trail is perfect for large groups of campers, couples looking for a romantic getaway or single hikers who want to unwind from city life for a little bit.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum

See every fall color you could ever hope to see by visiting the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, located about 55 miles east of Phoenix. You can enjoy the main trail that loops around the premises for 1.5 miles, allowing you to see an array of trees, including Arizona sycamores, black walnuts, Honey locusts, and much more. The arboretum opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. throughout October. You can even take a little bit of nature home with you by going during the Fall Plant Sale.
